A report has slammed the addiction to a smartphone among the adults and teenagers. According to the study, one in four teenagers and one in five adults admitted on using their smartphone during performances.
The survey which was conducted by communications watchdog, Ofcom, has also pointed out that people with ordinary phones were far less likely to use their phones during a play or a movie. 27% of British teenagers admit on using a smartphone in venues where they have been asked to turn them off. The adults were no better at 20% and this raises many issues about social etiquette and manners.
According to James Thickett, director of research at Ofcom, the trend of teenagers using mobile phones in the cinema or theatre was well documented but the smartphone craze is much higher and sparing none including teens and adults. The ways in which a smartphone has changed the functioning of the users includes business calls, leisure time and other social activities.

Around 5 billion people use cellphones around the world; most people cannot live without their cellphones. And experts are apprehensive that this trend may soon catch up with children.
European research recently published in America's Journal of the National Cancer Institute that kids who use cellphones are at no greater risk of developing brain cancer than those who do not. Recently the UN agency of The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reclassified cellphones as "possibly carcinogenic".
Dr Kurt Straif of the IARC says that the strongest evidence of cellphones being possibly carcinogenic comes from the association of use of cellphones and certain types of brain cancer. They recommend keeping the phone away from the ear and using hands free kits for voice calls.
